A Message From the President

October 2024
Throughout 2024, the Arizona Landscape Contractors’ Association (ALCA) remained the state’s leading organization, providing top-tier education and governmental advocacy to enhance the professionalism of our members and improve public perception of Landscape Contractors and the Green Industry.
ALCA’s success is thanks to our 420 professional landscape and affiliated companies, representing approximately 26,000 workers, as well as the dedication of our Board of Directors and Committee volunteers.
Key accomplishments in 2024 include:
• The ALCA staff successfully launched new learning management and association management software, streamlining event registrations, programs, and educational offerings. Additionally, we completed a rebranding and website redesign.
Your continued involvement and support are greatly appreciated as we strive to maintain ALCA’s tradition of excellence in the Green Industry. We are truly fortunate to have you as a valued ALCA member!

About Nickie Velten
Nickie Velten, the current President of ALCA, brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role. Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Nickie is a 3rd generation native of the Valley of the Sun. Her journey into the landscape industry began during her high school years at Paradise Valley High, where her interest in agriculture and horticulture was sparked through the FFA.
After graduating high school, Nickie earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude, from Northern Arizona University. During her studies, she gained valuable experience working at Artie’s Ace Hardware as a Buyer and Account Reconciliation Manager for six years. In her sophomore year of college, Nickie joined DTR Landscape Development, L.L.C., to assist her father, marking the beginning of her career in the landscape industry.
For the past 15 years, Nickie has served as Vice President of DTR Landscape Development, L.L.C., working alongside her father, Dick Roberts, and husband, Jason Velten. She has successfully bid and procured numerous commercial construction projects, from office buildings to high schools with athletic fields. One of her proudest moments came in 2017 when she was recognized as the Landscape Contractor of the Year by ALCA, an honor she shared with her father.
